Advertising in Lithuania

As I've written some (just two actually) posts already, I think I need to show the other creative work that is worth mentioning.

Lithuania is a small market with only a few agency names worth mentioning. The ad industry works pretty much the same as anywhere else in the world, except budgets are much smaller, resources more modest and expectations high, which requires a lot of ingenuity on the part of ad people.
The market is de-saturated in terms of local creative talent, which creates good opportunities  for the creative’s  to do actual work, build portfolios and win awards even at junior level.

“Become Someone Else” Campaign
These print ads for the Mint Vinetu bookstore in Lithuania encourages readers to engage themselves thru direct identification with the characters.  It focusses on the idea of becoming someone else, and provokes people to try on different personas.

Lithuanian photographer Tadas Černiauskas and his 'Blow Job' photography

Lithuanian photographer Tadas Černiauskas held a very special photo shoot. People visiting his studio (as part of Vilnius Design Weekend) were literally blown away by a strong current of air. Tadas called his photo session fittingly “Blow Job”.

Kaunas International Film Festival

Another really good ad from Lithuania! Wow wow wow! well done :))

Kaunas IFF is one of most appreciated film festivals in Lithuania. This year the main message of the festival invites the viewer to become a better person at least for a short time - till the film ends.

Vytautas Mineral Water! It's Earth's Juice! or advertising in Lithuania

I really wanted one day to write a post about advertising in Lithuania. Probably this day will come very soon, who knows... But now... I just saw this commercial! and yeah it is an Lithuanian advert.

While other commercials may massage basic advertising standards, this Vytautas ad takes those standards into an alley and beats the crap out of them. This is the key to the ad's brilliance.

I have never seen a Lithuanian version on a tv though. Probably that is just for the Internet. Who knows? But this is something interesting, and this 'something interesting' comes from Lithuania. Well done! Also there are at least three similar ads in Lithuanian. You can check the first one, second and third by clicking :) Maybe all of them will be translated in English, since the English version became soooooo viral!

Severija Incirauskaite-Kriauneviciene

Embroidery is pretty hot right now, so who better to show off this current trend than Lithuanian artist Severija Incirauskaite, who darns yarn like no other. Her work involves cross-stitching domestic, metal objects such as pans, watering cans, spoons and even car doors. Integrating traditional elements from her Lithuanian heritage, Severija manages to turn a simple idea into something beautiful. We talked to the artist about how she mixes pop culture with traditional craft and technique.
You can find her interview under the cut. This time in English.

Jolanta Smidtiene

For a third consecutive year the city of Kaunas, Lithuania approached artist Jolanta Šmidtienė to assist with their annual holiday decorating. Recognizing the city’s somewhat dire financial state the artist challenged herself to build something that wouldn’t rely on any administrative funds set aside for the event. The result: an enormous 13-meter tall Christmas tree made from nearly 40,000 recycled green bottles and zip ties. At night the tree is lit from the inside resulting in a glowing, translucent, emerald green spruce that’s making headlines across the country.
